About Us

Mission Statement

The mission of Montcalm County Habitat for Humanity is to improve lives in our community by building safe and affordable housing in partnership with God’s people.

How We Do It

We are a non-profit, Christian organization. Through volunteer labor and tax-deducatable donations of money and materials, we build simple, decent and affordable houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. These houses are sold to partner families at no profit, and financed with affordable, no-interest loans.

A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out

Homes are built by forming a partnership with the future homowner family using primarily volunteer labor. Homeowners meet a threefold criteria of:
There must be a need for decent housing.
Income between 50% and 35% of the median income for Montcalm County, adjusted for family size.
Willingness to partner with us by working a minium of 250 “Sweat Equity” hours per adult member of the household with us.
The completed homes are sold to the pre-selected family at cost using a zero interest mortgage that Montcalm County HFH carries. The combination of cost reducing volunteer labor and a zero interest mortgage is what makes the home affordable to low-income families. The mortgage payments come directly to Montcalm County HFH and are recycled through a building fund to build more homes for more families in need.

Our Vision

Montcalm County Habitat for Humanity, with the help of God and community is striving to eliminate substandard housing in Montcalm County and to make decent housing a matter of conscience in our society.
